Misdemeanor Charges in Student Groping

Glen Cove High School student turned himself in on day of the incident; female victim reported no injuries.

A 15-year-old male student at faces charges of forcible touching and unlawful imprisonment in connection with an incident that occurred at the school on May 4, according to the Glen Cove Police Department.

Police said at approximately 2:50 p.m., after regular classes had ended, the boy, a sophomore, was recorded on video surveillance entering a girls' restroom with a 15-year-old female freshman. Police said it appeared she was forced inside.

The victim reported that the boy fondled her and touched her inappropriately inside the restroom.

Moments later, police said, the two exited the restroom and the boy tried forcing her into the nearby boys' restroom. Resisting, the female fell to the floor and the boy grabbed her by the ankles, but did not get her inside. Police said he held her by the ankles for several seconds before letting go, at which point the incident ended.

The female student reported the incident to school staff, who conducted an investigation and called police.

The boy turned himself in to Glen Cove police later that day, accompanied by his parents, and was charged with the two Class A misdemeanors.

The case will be heard in Nassau County Court.
