Pizzeria Employee Badly Injures Hand in Machine

Victim suffered severed fingers after his hand got caught in food prep machine.

An employee at Amalfi Pizza was hospitalized Monday with a mangled hand and severed fingers after his hand was caught in a food preparation machine, reported  Glen Cove EMS chief Matt Venturino.

An ambulance was dispatched to the restaurant at 197 Forest Ave. in the Stop & Shop shopping center at 6:12 p.m.

Venturino described the injured employee as a male in his twenties. The man suffered "major trauma" to his right hand as well as severed fingers, Venturino said. He had freed his hand before the EMS crew arrived.

The patient was stabilized before being transported to Winthrop University Hospital's trauma center, which specializes in amputations.

Accidents happen and it was a horrible thing but the employee was not using the machine properly. The owner of Amalfi has been by his employees bed side since the incident occured following up on all the treatment. The Amalfi owner is doing all he can to help his employee through this ugly accident

Wasn't there a similar accident years ago when "Delicious" was there? That space must be jinxed - or more appropriately "mal occhio-ed".
