Police: Fireworks Are Illegal

Nassau County authorities send safety reminder to residents just before Independence Day weekend arrives.

Nassau County police sent out a fireworks safety alert Thursday as a reminder for residents before Fourth of July festivities begin this weekend.

Police Commissioner Lawrence W. Mulvey said residents should remember that all fireworks are illegal in this state and the unlicensed possession, use or sale of fireworks, including sparklers, may be punishable as a misdemeanor or a felony.

County authorities encourage residents to attend public firework shows held by licensed professionals as a way to abide by the law and prevent firework-related injuries.
