A Huntington man who studied at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory threatened its staff, authorities said.
Nassau Police say John P. Sheppard, 26, was arrested on Wednesday at 4:45 p.m. for making a terroristic threat.
Detectives say Sheppard was suspended from Cold Spring Harbor Lab for erratic behavior. After his suspension, he made several threatening posts on social media, putting the staff in fear of their safety. The incidents occurred between May 19-July 7.
An investigation led detectives on Thursday to Sheppard’s home, where he was arrested without incident. At the time of his arrest, Sheppard was found have an imitation pistol BB gun, police said.
No injuries were reported.
Sheppard is charged with six counts of making a terroristic threat and fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon.
He is scheduled for arraignment on Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
