Rain Batters Glen Cove

The continuation of Monday's storm makes today's commute a messy one for city residents.

Residents in Glen Cove are most likely singing the nursery rhyme, "Rain Rain Go Away" right now as today's downpour continues to cause flooding on city streets.

Since the rainstorm hit the Tri-State area yesterday, weather authorities said, the city has been pounded with more than three inches of rain and struck by gusty winds as high as 23 mph.

The soaking rains have already caused flooding on Glen Street and other thoroughfares in the city, which prompted police and fire officials to redirect traffic in some areas. Weather officials predict that an additional 1.42 inches of rain is on its way.

The National Weather Service has extended its Flood Advisory for the city until later this evening. The same advisory was also issued for Nassau County. A Coastal Flood Watch is also in effect for the city until about 11 p.m.

The storm is expected to lose its intensity by tonight and continue until tomorrow morning with a mixture of drizzle and clouds as well as winds between 11 and 18 mph.
