Rescuers Save Stranded Boaters Near Morgan's Island

Multi-agency response located disabled boat on Labor Day and towed safely to shore.

Seven people were rescued Monday night after a boat in distress was located in the Long Island Sound off Morgan's Island, according to .

A fisherman called 911 at about 10:30 p.m. to report he was lost and his boat had lost power and had several children on board, said chief Matt Venturino in an email.

A multi-agency water rescue response was activated that included Glen Cove EMS, the , , Glen Cove Harbor Patrol, Glen Cove Auxiliary Police, the Nassau County Police Department Marine Bureau and the U.S. Coast Guard.

After establishing a command post in the parking lot, rescuers launched a land and water search. They found the boat after 30 minutes, about 300 yards off Matinecock Point at Morgan’s Island.

Four adults and three children were on board and uninjured, Venturino said.

The boat was towed to in Glen Cove.
