Resident Arrested for Manslaughter After Fatal Crash

Police say Glen Cove man drove while impaired and caused a collision in East Hills that claimed the life of a Glen Head teen.

A Glen Cove man was arrested on Saturday after Nassau County police say he drove while impaired and caused an accident that killed a 19-year-old motorist from Glen Head. 

According to county detectives, while driving his Nissan SUV on Glen Cove Road in East Hills around 2:20 a.m. Saturday, resident, Juan Uribe, 36, struck a tree and was then hit by a taxicab and a motorcycle. Uribe's SUV, police said, stopped in the northbound lanes of traffic. 

The motorcyclist, Pietro Gaudesi, 19, of Glen Head, was a ejected from the motorbike and killed. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police suspect that Uribe was driving under influence of alcohol and prescription drugs. He was arrested on charges on second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while ability impaired at North Shore University Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. He took a blood test and detectives are awaiting the results. 

The 54-year-old male taxi driver and 25-year-old female passenger were also treated at the hospital for minor injuries. A 32-year-old male passenger of the taxi was not injured.

All three vehicles, police said, were impounded for safety checks.

Detectives said Uribe's arraignment has not been scheduled because he is still in the hospital.
