Wheatley Heights Man Arrested in Oyster Bay

A Wheatley Heights man who initially sped away from police in Oyster Bay was arrested for drug possession, officials said.

Nassau detectives said Second Precinct police officers conducted a vehicle and traffic stop of James M. Carter, 30, of 106 North 16th St. while he was driving a 1997 Dodge Dakota heading north on Spring Street.

As officers approached the stopped car, Carter sped away, police said. They found the car a short distance away on Shore Avenue. A clear piece of plastic containing crack cocaine was recovered from inside the vehicle. Narcotics detectives found Carter on Spring Street and arrested him without incident. Police say Carter was carrying a knotted piece of plastic containing marijuana in his front pants pocket.
