250 gallons of motor oil were among the hazardous household waste collected at last Saturday's City of Glen Cove S.T.O.P. Program, an annual event to collect and dispose of hazardous household waste.
This year’s collection included 400 cars, 31 tanks of propane, 34 tires, 13 car batteries, and 36 lithium batteries in addition to 2 fifty-five gallon drums of antifreeze, and 215 miscellaneous light bulbs.
"The growing numbers prove that the S.T.O.P. program is a very worthwhile program," Mayor Suozzi said. "The residents recognize the potential dangers of improper disposal and I thank all who participated.”
The city gives a special thanks to the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department for standing by all day, the Auxiliary Police and to DPW General Foreman Michael Salentino for overseeing the operation working with the Progressive Waste Solutions personnel all day.
