City Honors Elm Avenue Animal Rescue Volunteers
Tuesday also marked the 343rd birthday of the city.
The City of Glen Cove honored volunteers and first responders at Tuesday's council meeting for their work during mission where 100 cats and kittens and three ferrets were rescued from a Glen Cove home.
Betty Bjorkman, of 43 Elm Avenue, was arrested on April 5 and charged with Animal Cruelty, a Class A Misdemeanor, said Detective Joe Graziosi of the .
"The volunteer work transcends organizations, neighborhoods, and backgrounds," said Mayor Ralph Suozzi. "The Animal Lovers League rescued 100 animals from a terrible situation. This was a true case of community spirit bringing us together to end cruelty to the animals rescued."

president and co-founder Joan Phillips said that offer 30 cats have been adopted since the rescue.

Village Piazza
While it was not scheduled on Tuesday's meeting's agenda, an emergency resolution was added to discuss the .
The resolution authorized the City Council to make a recommendation to the Planning Board for a special permit application of Village Piazza.
The Piazza is a $60 million dollar development project that is expected to bring commercial use at street level, and four stories atop for residential and college dorm-like use.
Mayor Suozzi said that – as a practice of the Glen Cove master plan – any residential development specified in the downtown area goes back to the council to re-certify.

Police Chief Award
Sergeant Patrick Wright received the Nassau County Police Chiefs Award at their Swan Club luncheon. Chief William Whitton said he chose Wright for his leadership.
“He inspires and encourages officers to perform at the highest and most professional levels,” Whitton said.
