City Lifts Water Usage Restrictions

Outdoor bans will no longer be in effect starting on Thursday.

Starting on July 22, the City of Glen Cove's current water usage restrictions are no longer in effect.

After Long Island began to suffer from a drought late last month, city officials implemented the temporary hosepipe bans during the Fourth of July weekend in an effort to conserve water. The restrictions were then extended to the following week.

City authorities announced on Wednesday that beginning on Thursday, residents will be permitted to water their lawns, flowers and shrubs and wash their cars. This news comes after heavy rains fell across Long Island earlier this week.

According to the National Weather Service, there's also a chance that showers and thunderstorms will hit the Island on Friday after 3 p.m.

Authorities, said, however, that residents should still adhere to the city's standard water regulations, which designate daily watering hours with city water from 5 to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to midnight only.
