Contests Announced for Jones Beach Air Show
Fans of the can participate this year in two interactive Facebook contests designed to celebrate fans of flight, as well as the nation’s deserving veterans.
The Bethpage Federal Credit Union “My Very First Flight” contest announced Monday challenges fans to submit positive photos capturing their “very first flight.” The other interactive Bethpage contest called “Veteran Appreciation” recognizes and celebrates those who have served their country. For this contest, Bethpage is challenging veterans to share what Memorial Day Weekend and the air show at in Wantagh means to them.
National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame Induction Set
Residents are invited to pay honor and tribute to some of the top Jewish sports athletes and participants of their time this Sunday at the Suffolk Y JCC in Commack.
This year's inductees will include: Sy Berger, Topps Baseball Cards; Al "Bummy" Davis, a boxing legend; Jon Denning, a NASCAR auto racer; Mike Hartman, of NFL fame; Debbie Belkin Rademacher, who played for the U.S. Women's Soccer Team; the late Arthur Richman, an MLB executive; Howie Rose, a sports broadcaster; Jerry Solomon, a sports agent; and Joanna Ziefler, triathlon athlete.
The Suffolk Y JCC will host the 20th annual National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and Museum induction ceremony this Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon.
10 Lindenhurst Lacrosse Players Suspended
Ten players on the 's varsity boys lacrosse team were recently suspended from school and practice after getting caught drinking.
That's according to Superintendent Richard Nathan, who released a statement to Lindenhurst Patch on Friday afternoon.
"The suspensions were a result of the boys drinking alcohol on the bus ride home while heading back from a tournament in Rochester a few weeks ago," the superintendent explained in the statement.
Shellfishing in Sag Harbor Suspended
Shellfishing in Sag Harbor has been temporarily closed after a marine biotoxin was discovered in shellfish samples.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced on Thursday that harvesting of shellfish and carnivorous gastropods Sag Harbor Cove and Upper Sag Harbor Cove have been temporarily closed.
Shellfish collected from a monitoring site in Sag Harbor Cove tested positive for saxitoxin, a marine biotoxin that causes paralytic shellfish poisoning, the DEC said. The DEC’s marine biotoxin monitoring program tests samples.
