County Reopens Pryibil Beach

Health authorities say water is safe to use.

After temporarily shutting down Pryibil Beach in Glen Cove as well as 18 others in Nassau County Thursday as a precautionary measure against possible unsafe levels of bacteria in the water, county Department of Health officials announced Friday that the beach has been reopened.

Health authorities closed the beaches for 24-hours to safeguard the public from elevated levels of bacteria used to measure bathing water quality after runoff from Wednesday's rainstorm hit the beaches. The county closed 14 beaches on the North Shore and five on the South.

Laurel Hollow Beach, county officials said, is the only one that remains closed until further notice because it has high levels of bacteria.
