DeRiggi-Whitton Begins Bid for Nassau Legislature

Glen Cove Democrats officially nominated Councilwoman Delia DeRiggi-Whitton Monday night.

Glen Cove Democratatic Committee officially nominated life-long resident and city Councilwoman Delia DeRiggi-Whitton for Nassau County Legislature Monday night.

DeRiggi-Whitton – the daughter of former Glen Cove Mayor Donald DeRiggi – will run to succeed incumbent Diane Yatauro, D-Glen Cove.

Yatauro – who was elected to the 18th Legislature District in 2003 and has served as Minority Leader since 2009 – that she plans to leave political life to focus her attention on family.

"All across Long Island, communities are taxed to the brink – and yet, the County Legislature continues to borrow money for policies that Nassau can't afford," DeRiggi-Whitton said in a Nassau Democratic Committee news release. "In Glen Cove, about a third of our budget goes to paying off our debt. We don't want to raise taxes to pay it down, so we've been very careful with how we allocate our resources. We work within our means. The County Legislature needs to adopt the same responsible mindset if we're going to make it through this financial crisis."
