Dozens Angled for Mayor's Snapper Derby

Contest drew 79 participants Saturday in spite of the rainy weather.

The annual Mayor's Snapper Derby lured 79 young participants to Prybil Beach Pier Saturday, where they braved rainy and windy weather to vie for titles in several age categories.

The Best Angler distinction was given to Nick Telese, while Brandon Liebowitz took first place in the Senior Division for children ages 11 to 16. Gianna Groe took second place, and Ryan DiPaolo came in third.

Winners for the Junior Division, for children ages 6 to 10, were John Glasgow in first place, Frankie Tornicchio in second and Ryan Annunziato in third.

Volunteers from the Matinecock Rod & Gun Club and the Angler's Club organized the event, which was sponsored by a variety of local businesses.
