Louis Imbroto, a 28-year-old Plainview native, is challenging Assemblyman Charles Lavine, who has held that post since 2005.
Lavine, D-Glen Cove, is a city resident of 32 years and a former member of the Glen Cove's Planning Board and City Council. He sits on six Assembly committees: Codes, Health, Higher Education, Insurance, Judiciary and Social Services. He chairs the Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Estates, Powers and Trusts.
Imbroto, a manager of policy and government affairs for the Long Island Contractors Association, has criticized Lavine for consistently voting along party lines and, most recently, for sponsoring the MTA tax.
Both men are law school graduates. Beyond that they have little in common as far as political and professional backgrounds, as well as the obvious generational gap.
Lavine, 65, was a member of the Legal Aid Society between 1972 and 1976 before practicing law in Queens and lower Manhattan and serving as an attorney for Glen Cove's Community Development Agency and Industrial Development Agency.
Imbroto is a founding member of the Action Long Island Young Adult Alliance and is chair of the group's transportation and government relations. He is co-chair of the Nassau County Youth Cabinet.
