Glen Cove Hosts Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration

Mayor Ralph V. Suozzi invites all to attend the 28th  Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration on Monday, January 16, 2012.  The City of Glen Cove and the Glen Cove School District are proud to offer this special program as one of only two communities on Long Island with a long-standing, annual commitment to honor Dr. King’s life.

All residents are encouraged to join Mayor Ralph V. Suozzi, the Glen Cove City Council, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Commemorative Commission members, local elected officials, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Laria, representatives of community organizations and members of the clergy in paying tribute to the slain Civil Rights leader.

The events on January 16th begin at 9 a.m. with a traditional march reminiscent of Dr. King’s steps toward equality and voting rights. Marchers will start from the First Baptist Church on Continental Place and proceed down the newly dedicated “Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Way”.  The march will continue through downtown Glen Cove to the Wunsch Arts Center on Forest Avenue. A celebratory program in the auditorium will commence immediately upon arrival.
