FEMA Awards Nassau $53M for Sandy Debris Cleanup

The federal money will be used to pay for tree removal, vegetative debris hauling, vegetative debris chipping and stump removal.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded $53 million to help pay the cost of debris removal after Superstorm Sandy.

Nassau County used contractors to assist with tree removal, vegetative debris hauling, vegetative debris chipping and stump removal.

In a press release, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand said the FEMA funds would "provide much needed relief for Long Island families and businesses impacted by Superstorm Sandy."
