Free Firewood Available Starting Friday

TOBAY offering pickups on Fridays, weekends through March.

Free firewood will be available to Town of Oyster Bay residents starting Friday and continuing every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through mid-March, the Town announced.

The Town Highway yard at 150 Miller Pl., Syosset, will be open for pickups after 3 p.m. on Fridays and between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the weekend.

The wood is cut but not split. Vehicles with commercial plates will not be permitted.

Councilman Joe Pinto stressed the importance of taking proper precautions when burning wood fires in the home.

“Remember that both the fireplace and chimney need to be cleaned and inspected before the first use of the season to avoid any chance of a chimney fire,” Pinto said. “Precautions should also be taken when the fireplace is in use. The damper must always remain open whenever the fire is lit in the fireplace, and either screening or glass doors should be used to keep sparks from flying into the room.”

Reminders for the week:

  • The Town clerk's office at Town Hall North is open Tuesday until 7:30 p.m.
  • GAP holiday recess begins Saturday.

I think the best course of action would be to contact any board member (their emails are listed) andRead More see what he or she has to say about it. That's one source that I would find reliable on this.
