The proposed "Villa at Glen Cove" development has after a handful of residents learned of the builder's intention to create 216 units in a complex at least five stories high in some places.
The proposal is a new version of a similar one that has been around since at least five years ago, and is part of the city's Master Plan.
Nothing has been approved yet, according to the Planning Board, but that hasn't stayed the fears of homeowners on Rooney Court, whose backyards would abut the new development.
Noise pollution, loss of privacy and view, environmental impact and traffic were given as their primary concerns, as well as the process by which residents are notified of Planning Board hearings concerning nearby property.
The developer's attorney said the proposed buildings are designed to enhance the aesthetics of one of the main entryways to Glen Cove. In support of the plan, the city has noted the blighted status of several properties currently occupying areas of the planned site, as well as a need for affordable housing for young people.
