Glen Cove City Council Race: Candidate Martin Carmody

Carmody is a Democratic candidate running for Glen Cove City Council.

Martin Carmody, a long-time Glen Cove resident, is running for Glen Cove City Council as a new member to ’s slate.

He is a senior design engineer, member of the Glen Cove IDA, on the Glen Cove Junior Soccer League (GCJSL) Board of Directors and former volunteer firefighter.

He and his wife Cheryl, who is a Glen Cove school teacher, also organize the annual .

“Cheryl always jokes that we have no hobbies, we just volunteer our time,” Carmody said. She might be right, he added, “but we meet a lot of nice people, we get to do things that contribute towards family, our children and our community, and we like doing things like that.”

According to Carmody, becoming an elected official could provide him with an even greater chance to give back to the city he loves.

“This is another opportunity to participate on an even higher level and, to me, it’s a lifelong dream to run for public office,” he said. “I hope to make Glen Cove an even better place. I think I can do that as a council member.”

Carmody feels his expertise in manufacturing and industry could greatly benefit the city.

“I know what makes a factory work, and what a good business needs to have,” he said. “If we are going to expand our industry base, or even develop our housing base, we need to do it in the correct manner.”

Being a family-centric person, Carmody hopes to bring new life to Glen Cove, and can see a bright future for local young families.

“I think it’s great to raise a kid here now, but I know we can make it even better in the future," he said. "I believe that our future is better, and that we can build that."
