Glen Cove E-Waste Drop-Off Saturday

City's electronics recycling drive expanded to second date in spring to coincide with Earth Day.

Glen Cove's yearly Electronic Waste Recycling Program was expanded this year to include a second date, according to the City.

The city's now bi-annual program offers Glen Cove residents and businesses the chance to get rid of unwanted electronic devices at Winters Brothers Recycling at the end of Morris Ave. on Saturday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Mayor Ralph Suozzi said the April 27 date was set to coincide with Earth Day, which was Monday.

The program will next be held on Saturday, October 5.

Acceptable items are: computer monitors and hard drives, printers, keyboards, mice and cables, copiers, fax machines, cell phones, pagers, VCR's, stereos, televisions and electronic games.

Microwaves and small household appliances will not be accepted.

The program is only open to Glen Cove residents and businesses, and proof of residency is required.

Suozzi issued a statement saying the city is proud to take a leadership role in recycling such materials, which contain copper, lead and other heavy metals that are highly toxic when released into the environment.

The last E-Waste Day, in September, saw 313 residents drop off a total of 10.86 tons of electronic material.
