Lavine Reaches out to Rep. King on

State Assemblyman Charles Lavine, D-Glen Cove, composed the following letter to Rep. Peter King, R-Seaford, regarding national debt.

Dear Congressman King:

I write to advise that our Republican, Democratic and independent constituents are expressing before unheard anxiety as a result of the House of Representative’s inability to advance a compromise resolution to the debt ceiling crisis.

While there is no doubt whatsoever that a failure to address this crisis by August 2, 2011 will wreak havoc to our national and global economies, there remains a lack of constructive effort, enabled by recently elected ideologues in your House, to avert the certainty of doom.

I urge that you use your good offices to convince your colleagues that we are at the precipice and to persuade them to compromise so that our nation does not fall into the abyss.

Thank you for your consideration respecting this matter.

Germino Attends July 4 Celebrations

Candidate for the County Legislative District 18, Robert Germino attended the Independence Day celebrations in the Village of Sea Cliff in July.

The Sea Cliff Civic Association coordinated the event and kicked off the festivities with the Mayor of Sea Cliff, Bruce Kennedy, ringing the Village bell, calling all to order.

John Canning and "a cast of Sea Cliff villagers" then read our Declaration of Independence. Canning's voice carried over the crowd and the cast of villagers joined in to call out the atrocities made by the British Crown as was written in the Declaration. The crowd joined in at the end to read the last paragraph of the Declaration and shouts, drums, and other celebratory noise arose when the reading was complete.

Germino said he enjoyed this intimate and inspirational gathering of residents: “The reading of our Declaration of Independence was magnificent,” he said. “I hope we continue to remember the past signs of abusive government so that we never give them sanctuary in the future.”
