Glen Cove Public Works Supervisor Fired

Supervisor terminated for falsely filing for overtime for Sandy cleanup.

Public Works Supervisor Kevin Monahan has been fired for falsely filing for overtime Hurricane Sandy cleanup.

Kevin Monahan had claimed $1,175 in overtime pay for 12 hours of cleanup work on Nov. 25 in Long Beach, where Glen Cove had provided aid and equipment. However, city officials say Monahan was not on duty that day. Four days of hearings in March had already resulted in Monahan’s suspension.

The decision to terminate Monahan came at Tuesday’s Glen Cove City Council meeting. That’s when council members accepted the recommendation of Eric Wingate, the Glen Cove Housing Authority executive director, who was appointed by the city as its hearing officer.

Patch was unable to reach Monahan Thursday.
