Haber Says Goodbye, for Now

The Democrat offered an upbeat note after losing to the favored Tom Suozzi.

Adam Haber's bid to be the Democratic nominee for County Executive fell short, but he left his supporters with an upbeat message on Monday.

In an email, Haber wrote that "Nine months ago I announced my candidacy for office because Nassau needs to change. I rolled up my sleeves, put together a plan and hit the ground running. The support my campaign received and the coalitions formed around my run to make Nassau work for everyone have been truly humbling."

Haber also said his campaign made a difference. Here was the rest of his note:

While Tuesday’s outcome closed my run to be the 2013 Democratic candidate for Nassau County Executive, it did not put an end to the progress we’ve made. Our small group of committed people shook things up! Now let's continue our conversation about how best to move the county forward. Communities must continue working together to push for greater equality, higher standards of living for everyone, and to create a place where all residents can thrive.

As our government continues to chug along, I look forward to a day when we evaluate our progress based on the least among us. Only when each and every person in our community is cared for, will we be able to applaud our efforts.

Margaret Mead noted, “Never underestimate the power of a small group of committed people to change the world. In fact, it is the only thing that ever has.” For all the hard work, support and progress to change our community, I thank you.
