Hydrant Flushing to Begin in April in Glen Cove

Don't be surprised if your tap water is discolored when you turn on the faucet in April

Fire hydrants are going to be opened in the beginning of April for the semi-annual flushing of dead-end water mains, according the City of Glen Cove. This is to eliminated accumulated dissolved mineral sediments in the water mains prior to the peak usage period.

During the hydrant flushing period, residents may detect some water pressure fluctuation and water discoloration. The discoloration poses no health risk. Customers may choose to keep a supply of clear water in the refrigerator for drinking and cooking during periods of any discoloration in the water.
