Mangano Announces Summer Program at Easter Egg Hunt

The recreation initiative will be featured at four parks in Nassau County.

On Saturday, Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano revealed that the county will establish a new Summer Recreation Program.

His announcement was met with enthusiastic support from county employees and residents who turned out in the hundreds for Mangano's first Easter Egg Hunt. The event was held on the lawn of the Theodore Roosevelt Legislative and Executive Building in Mineola, and was met by celebratory cheers from the pint-sized guests.

An abundant supply of brightly colored eggs were filled with chocolates, stickers and certificates to places like Friendly's and McDonald's.

Kids were treated to face painting, photos with the Easter Bunny, bagged popcorn, Disney-themed toothbrushes and a chance to color Easter-themed pictures. A representative from Little Debbie Snack Cakes supplied an infinite amount of cakes and chips while Balloons Unlimited provided dozens of balloons and other fun toys.

Many other local businesses lent their supplies and donations to the event including Rubies Costumes, the Cradle of Aviation and Easter Unlimited/Fun World.

County agencies like the Nassau Civil Service Employees Association, the Sheriff Officers Association and the Fire Marshal Benevolent Association also gave their time and service.

The Summer Recreation Program will be featured at four parks throughout the county: Cantiague Park in Hicksville, Christopher Morley Park in Roslyn, Nickerson Beach Park in Lido Beach and Wantagh Park in Wantagh.

"This is our pilot program year, we are hoping for good participation," said Mangano. "What a wonderful way to experience Nassau County parks."

The Parks Department is accepting enrollment applications now through June 15. Events will run from July 6 through Aug. 12 on weekdays for resident children ages 5 to 12. More information can be obtained by calling 516-572-0200.
