Nassau Nets Domestic Violence Grant

The $900,000 grant will be used, in part, to update the alarm system used by domestic violence victims.

Nassau County has earned a $900,000 federal grant to help combat domestic violence.

The money will be used to update the Nassau County Police Department's alarm system used by domestic violence victims and to train officers to properly access information on repeat offenders.

The federal grant is being awarded through the Department of Justice's Violence Against Women Program.

"These federal dollars will put the resources we need on the ground to effectively enhance safety of victims and hold offenders accountable," said Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, in a statement.
