Poll: Should Government Services Be Offered Only in English?

State agencies have been ordered to provide help in six other languages.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo this week ordered state agencies to begin offering forms and instructions in six foreign languages.

The agencies will also have to provide interpretation and translation services to help the estimated 2.5 million New Yorkers who do not speak English as their main language.

"We are proud that people from all around the world call New York home," Cuomo said. "This executive order ensures that non-English speakers receive equal access to programs, services and opportunities offered by their state government."
