Public Hearing to be Held on Proposed Precinct Cuts

Residents encouraged to bring questions, concerns.

A public hearing will be held on Monday, February 13 concerning county executive Ed Mangano’s police precinct cuts proposal, Legis. Delia DeRiggi-Whitton announced today.

The hearing will start at 11 a.m. at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive Building in Mineola.

“The county Legislature must vote on this proposal but we have received no solid information on how this will save any money,” DeRiggi-Whitton said in a statement.

She said she has been hearing feedback from police that the cuts will affect service. The 6th precinct, covering the communities of Glen Head and Glenwood Landing, is one that stands to be cut.

“We need residents to come and ask questions and voice any concerns they may have. Community feedback will be crucial to this process,” DeRiggi-Whitton said in her statement. “Without it, the county executive’s majority caucus in the Legislature will simply push this through and then we will all have to wait and see how our neighborhoods are affected.”
