School Board Votes Against Superintendent's Recommendation

Laria's choice for his next assistant in charge of curriculum was based on expert opinions, he said. Who do you favor?

Glen Cove's Board of Education to not approve a contract for superintendent Joseph Laria's assistant superintendent of curriculum.

The hiring of Stephanie Clagnaz, an administrator in the Hempstead school district, was denied after stiff opposition from residents who showed up for the meeting by the dozen.

Attendees voiced outrage, saying a popular pick from within the district, Landing Elementary School principal Michael Israel, was not being given a fair shot at the position.

Trustee Joel Sunshine said he was voting in favor of the contract going to Clagnaz, and that the decision is one he was elected to make based on expert opinion and not what is popular.

Do you think the board acted properly in voting against the superintendent's recommendation? Vote in our poll.
