Summer Scorcher Hits the City

As temps soar, weather officials issue heat wave warning for Long Island area.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Long Island including the City of Glen Cove until 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Weather officials expect temperatures to rise as high as 100 degrees in the afternoon, with humidity levels gradually increasing. As of 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, it was 98 degrees in the city.

Authorities say the advisory is issued when high humidities combine with hot temperatures to make it feel like it's 100 to 104 degrees for more than two consecutive hours. Weather experts anticipate that temperatures will drop to about 77 degrees Tuesday night.
