Tobay to Host Conference on Wastewater Issues

Town awarded $30,000 to educate officials from 34 municipalities along North Shore.

Supervisor John Venditto announced this week that the Town of Oyster Bay received a $30,000 grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to host a conference for local officials on handling wastewater systems issues.

"The Town will use the funds toward hosting a conference for municipal officials from 34 different municipalities along the north shore of Long Island," Venditto said in a statement.

The conference will provide on-site wastewater systems inspection and field training certification programs, and will focus on raising awareness of the importance of reducing discharges into Long Island's groundwaters.

"Quite simply, discharges into the groundwater are causing nitrogen and pathogen water quality impairments," Venditto said.

The grant was administered as part of the Long Island Sound Futures Program 2012.
