Town Offering Mall-Walking Program

TOBAY NOTEBOOK: Also, Halloween festival planned for Saturday.

Residents can stay active this fall by signing up for the Town of Oyster Bay’s free Mall Walking Program.

Registration is underway for the twice-weekly program that gives anyone, regardless of age, the opportunity to exercise at area malls.

“Many of us exercise regularly in the summer, but not as much when the weather starts getting colder,” said Councilwoman Michele M. Johnson. “Walking is a wonderful form of exercise, something that can be implemented as a lifelong activity in an effort to stay active."

The program, which runs from Monday, Nov. 4 to Thursday, Dec. 5 (excluding holidays), is offered at two locations, Broadway Mall in Hicksville and Westfield Sunrise Mall in Massapequa.

Registration forms can be picked up at Town Hall North and South, Community Park facilities, and at local libraries. They can be returned to the Recreation Division at Town Hall South, Parks Department, 977 Hicksville Road, Massapequa or handed in the first day of the program.

Town's Halloween Festival Set for Saturday

Supervisor John Venditto issued an invitation to residents last week to the Town of Oyster Bay’s fifth annual Family Fall and Halloween Festival.

The Town will host its second second fall festival from 1-4 p.m. at Marjorie R. Post Park, at the corner of Unqua and Merrick Roads, in Massapequa on Saturday Oct. 26. As in years past, the event takes place on both the Town’s North and South shores. The first festival was held earlier this month at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park.

“I invite residents to come out and celebrate the arrival of the fall season at this annual free event, which features fun activities for children and adults alike, including Halloween crafts, a hayride, as well as bouncies, games, apple cider and popcorn,” Venditto said.

A "U-Pick" pumpkin patchis planned for children, who are encouraged to come in costumes.

For more information on the festival, call the CAPA Division at 797-7925 or visit the Town’s Web site, www.oysterbaytown.com.
