Tobay Puts Out Senior Tax Exemption Information

If you're a senior citizen concerned about meeting your tax burden, the Town of Oyster Bay wants you to know that you might qualify for a property tax exemption.

The Town has put out a brochure outlining the Senior Citizen Tax Exemption program.

Residents over the age of 65 whose income is less than $37,400 may be eligible, according to Town Receiver of Taxes James Stefanich. 

“These individuals, who must meet certain other criteria, could receive up to a 50 percent reduction on the taxable values of county, Town and certain school district real property taxes," he said.

The Town is also hoping the state raises the income ceiling to make more seniors available for the exemption, according to Stefanich.  

In the meantime, the brochre, can answer questions and procedures surrounding the program.

Any resident who wants the free brochure can pick up at Town Hall North  and Town Hall South in Massapequa, the Department of Public Works in Syosset and at major park facilities.
