Deasy Elementary to Host Health & Wellness Fair

Local businesses and professionals promote healthy living at free fair on Thursday.

More than two dozen local health providers and business owners will come together to promote health and wellness at on Thursday for the Health & Wellness Fair.

The Deasy Health & Wellness Fair is free and open to the public. From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m, the event will feature dentists, chiropractors and massage therapists among other health professionals. Pharmacists will advise visitors about the flu season and nurse practitioners will perform blood pressure exams. The fair will be located in the school's All Purpose Room which can be entered from the parking lot located on Forest Avenue, between and Deasy Elementary.

Yoga instructors from M.Y. Wellness Studio, karate teachers from and dance instructors from will show children alternatives to traditional exercises in the school's gymnasium. Demonstrations will be held every half hour. Healthy snacks will be provided and the first 100 kids who participate will receive a New York Mets lunch box or water bottle.

Upon entering the fair, visitors will receive a recyclable bag from Walgreen's and one free raffle ticket, good for a chance to win a basket with items including a $50 Dick's Sporting Goods gift certificate. Other raffle items included four field level tickets to a Mets baseball game for the 2011 season, an autographed Tom Seaver ball, free massages, free registrations to various sporting organizations in Glen Cove and more than $100 worth of gift certificates.

The fair highlights Deasy's Health & Wellness Week, Nov. 15 through 19 when All 468 students will be treated to nutritious snacks every day of the week. The snacks are Pirate's Booty, Popchips, Popcorners, Kozy Shack pudding, and apples from North Shore Farms. All but one of these products comes from local Long Island companies and were generously donated to the students.
