DECA Members Perform Well at State Competition

Five Glen Cove students grab medals at conference for entrepreneurial skills.

Five members of Glen Cove High School's Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) chapter won prizes in several categories earlier this month at the annual New York State DECA State Career Conference and Competition in Rochester.

"Students participated in various competitions in business, marketing and entrepreneurship," said the district.

Glen Cove was represented by nine students: Tiffany Bellidoro, Yanna Bellidoro, Gillian Farnan, Tia Henderson, Surina Joshi, Justine Sawyer, Amber Shaw, Samantha Smith and Tanisha Williams.

The five winners and their categories were:

  • Tiffany Bellidoro, Chapter Scrapbook, Medal Winner, 3rd Place Trophy
  • Yanna Bellidoro, Public Service Broadcast Advertising, Medal Winner
  • Surina Joshi, Public Service Broadcast Advertising, Medal Winner
  • Justine Sawyer, Visual Advertising, Medal Winner
  • Samantha Smith, Job Interview, Medal Winner

The group was also recognized for their fundraising for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, the 2013 state-designated DECA charity.

They also received an award for increasing their membership this year.

This is the chapter's first year with Judi Geraghty serving as advisor.
