Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center Welcomes Speakers From Around the World

A Lesson in Compassion and Community…After World War II, the only European country with a greater Jewish population after the war, was Albania.

For the first time ever…A former Albanian Rescuer, children of Albanian Muslim Rescuers, a child of rescued Jewish Albanians, and a child of Yugoslavian Muslim Rescuers who converted to Judaism after Israel rescued her family from the Bosnian genocide…along with the Albanian Ambassador to the United Nations and local leaders of the Muslim community….gather together to remember the courage and heroism of a nation of people who are governed by a tradition of hospitality towards strangers. In the Albanian community, this tradition is known as “Besa”….a moral pledge not to stay indifferent to someone in need or one who is being persecuted.
