Glen Cove DECA Wins Big, Again

The club wins multiple medals.

The Glen Cove High School chapter of DECA (Distributive Education Club of America) once again delivered an impressive showing at the annual New York DECA State Career Conference and Competition in Rochester, NY. Nearly 2,000 students from across the state participated in various competitions in business, marketing, and entrepreneurship, with the Glen Cove chapter taking home numerous awards.  

Led by adviser Judith Geraghty (seen here at far right alongside GCHS DECA members), Glen Cove DECA received the fundraising award for raising more than $500 for Relay for Life, this year's designated DECA charity. Glen Cove also received an award for experiencing a significant increase in membership this year. Joining Ms. Geraghty in Rochester were DECA club members Gillian Farnan, Samantha Filippone, Essence Fowler, Brendan Hamel, Tia Henderson, Surina Joshi, Stevens Martinez, Lauren Rizzo, Areana Singh and Tanisha Williams.

The following DECA students won awards in their respective categories:

  • Tanisha Williams: Chapter Scrapbook, Medal Winner, 3rd Place Trophy
  • Tia Henderson: Public Service Broadcast Advertising, Medal Winner
  • Gillian Farnan: Public Speaking, Medal Winner
  • Essence Fowler: Visual Advertising, Medal Winner 
  • Stevens Martinez: Decision Making - Marketing, Medal Winner

The district extended congratulations to Ms. Geraghty for maintaining Glen Cove’s tradition of DECA success, and to all of the DECA students for their outstanding effort and accomplishments that continue to make Glen Cove proud!
