Glen Cove District Director Resigns

Dr. Silverman to step down from position as athletics administrator.

Without providing an explanation as to why his decision was made, Dr. Scott Silverman, director of athletics, physical education and health for the Glen Cove School District, announced his resignation during the Glen Cove Board of Education meeting on Monday.

With a look of disappointment on his face, Silverman only said that he was resigning and briefly highlighted his performance as an administrator.

"For those of you who truly know me, this is not something that I hoped for," Silverman said. "We have wonderful students here, and I just wanted to let you know that I've worked with central administration, my staff and many others to bring the district's PE, health and athletics program in par with many of Nassau County's top programs."

Silverman also encouraged residents to continue to strive for excellence with the programs in this department. "No matter what happens to me, you have a great program here and I hope it continues from the bottom of my heart," he said. "I hope each and every one of you choose a great successor, someone who knows the students and coaches."

The district declined to comment about Silverman's resignation because administrators said that this is a personnel matter and legally they are not permitted to discuss the details with the public.

As of Wednesday morning, the district's response was still the same.
