Glen Cove High School Principal on Leave

Dr. Joseph Hinton out for medical reasons; position filled temporarily.

A temporary fill-in for Glen Cove High School principal Joseph Hinton was appointed Monday while Hinton takes a medical leave, according to the Glen Cove Board of Education.

Hinton will not return to the post this school year due to an illness, according to a statement on the Glen Cove School District website. Board president Joel Sunshine said Monday that the Board deliberated over hiring someone to the position permanently or on a temporary basis.

Roseanne Cirnigliaro was approved by the Board Monday and officially took over on Tuesday.

Cirnigliaro retired last year after 35 years as a teacher and administrator, and served as a principal of Port Jefferson High School and Middle School, according to the district. She has worked with incoming Superintendent Maria Rianna, who worked for 11 years in the Port Jefferson School District.

For more on Cirnigliaro's background and qualifications, visit the district's online statement.
