Glen Cove Kid Wins Prize for Wood Plane

Fifth-grader Paolo Cacio and his team won first place in Cradle of Aviation Museum's competition.

A Glen Cove youth took first place in a flying model competition Saturday at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City, according to a press release.

Paolo Cacio led his team to victory with a balsa wood airplane they constructed, then tested in "four different flying tasks requiring team effort and expertise in flying agility and landing."

Competing teams came from across Long Island.

An introduction to aerodynamics and coordination of model building and testing was provided by museum docents and members of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
