Glen Cove Sounds Off

Residents discuss their thoughts about the 2010-11 school district budget.

With the Glen Cove School District's 2010-11 budget vote just weeks away, Patch thought it was imperative to dedicate this month's Glen Cove Sounds Off news report to this topic.

The $70.3 million budget, which is scheduled for a public vote on May 18, calls for an increase of little more than $1 million, or 1.55 percent, in expenditures from the current year. The tax levy — the amount of money that needs to be raised locally — is set at $59 million, a $2.1 million, or 3.70 percent, hike from the current budget.

The budget includes the elimination of 10 teaching positions, one teaching assistant and three administrator/supervisors, among other cuts, as a way to save $2.7 million next year.
