High School Band to March in NYC Columbus Day Parade

Ninety five students to march Monday; event to be broadcast on TV.

For the first time ever, the Glen Cove High School Marching Band will perform in the New York City Columbus Day Parade this Monday, October 14, beginning at 11:30 am. Under the direction of Nick Carbuto, 95 Glen Cove High School students will march along the streets of Manhattan, comprising 35 brass players, 15 percussionists, 45 woodwinds, 18 members of the GCHS kickline and 17 varsity cheerleaders.

For anyone making the trip to see the band in person, the students will line up on 45th street, march up Fifth Avenue and conclude at 72nd Street. The reviewing stand is located at 67th Street. If you wish to catch them on television, the parade will air from 12 noon to 3:00 pm on ABC-Channel 7.

Every year the parade draws approximately 1 million spectators and about 35,000 marchers. In addition to the 69th annual NYC Columbus Day Parade, the GCHS Marching Band performs in the City of Glen Cove’s annual Memorial Day Parade. In 2011, under Mr. Carbuto’s direction, the GCHS Marching Band performed in the NYC Veteran’s Day Parade– the only high school marching band from Long Island chosen to participate in the parade.
