Landing, Connolly Hold Spelling Bees

Two fifth-graders from each school recognized for top spelling ability.

Grade 5 students from Landing Elementary School and Connolly Elementary School pitted their spelling prowess against each other recently for the Scripps National Spelling Bee, the district announced.

Each class sent its best spellers to its respective school's contest.

Axelle LaBaw of Landing School and Steven Bailey of Connolly School each took first place. They will advance to the regional bee for Nassau County.

Also honored were Amellie Panjoj, runner-up at Landing, and Shanelle Stone, runner-up at Connolly.
