Marines Rock High School

United States Marine Corps Rock Band plays set at Glen Cove High School in recognition of Veterans Day.

A special performance and instructional session was brought to Glen Cove High School Monday through the efforts of two faculty members with strong ties to the United States Marine Corps.

Principal Joseph Hinton, a retired Lt. Colonel in the Corps who served as a platoon commander in the Gulf War, and the school's band director, Nick Carbuto, whose father wrote one of the Corps' official marching songs, arranged a visit by the United States Marine Corps Rock Band.

Carbuto's father, Marine Corps Sgt. Al Carbuto, served in the Pacific during World War II. He was professional musician and composer whose wartime song "Get Your Gear On" was adopted as the official marching song of the First Marine Division.

The band played hits by bands including Boston, AC/DC and Rage Against the Machine during a 45-minute set. The band's brass quintet also held a clinic for the high school's marching band's brass section.

The Glen Cove High School marching band was the only high school marching band selected to play in last year's New York City Veterans Day Parade.
