Meet Glen Cove's Salutatorian: Carly Baron

Baron earned second highest ranking for Glen Cove High School Class of 2011.

Carly Baron said she was surprised to learn she had been named Glen Cove High School Class of 2011 salutatorian.

“It’s a super big honor," Baron said. “I really didn’t expect it but I was pleasantly surprised.” 

A member of the National Honor Society since freshman year, Baron earned the second highest grade point average in her class while participating in a slew of after-school activities.

With a weighted cumulative average of just above 102 percent, Baron will represent the Class of 2011 as its salutatorian Friday at the high school's annual commencement. 

Baron, a graduate of and elementary schools and , said she's both nervous and excited to graduate.

"It still hasn't hit me yet," she said. "I still feel like a kid."

Baron has served as President and Soprano Leader with Select Chorale and participated in the NYSSMA Major Organizational Chorale Festival, where she received a Gold Honor with Distinction. 

"Select Chorale meant so much to me," Baron said. "We were like a family."

Baron is attending Muhlenberg College in Penn. in the fall. She said she plans to double major in theater and music.

Guidance counselor Antonie Samuels said Baron shows a "great degree of maturity."

“Her notion of equality and fairness along with an unbridled sense of right and wrong make her stand out among her peers," Samuels said. "Combine these attributes with her ability to analyze concepts and put them to practical use, her perseverance and her energy, and you begin to see what she is all about. ”
