Teaming Up for Education

Glen Cove High School hosts annual Red and Green District Games to raise money for scholarships.

Glen Cove High School recently hosted its annual Red and Green District Games, a friendly competition between students that raised money for scholarships for the Class of 2010.

Every elementary school in the district was represented by students who once attended that school, but have since moved up to the high school. The event, which featured current elementary students in attendance, included handball, dodge ball, and an obstacle course as its competition.

Former Gribbin and Connolly elementary school students represented the green team, while the Red Team was made up of former Deasy and Landing elementary graduates. Each group was coached by elementary school principals.

The green squad won the night's competition in a nail biter, beating the red team by one point. The senior green team members then challenged a lineup of district teachers and administrators to a game of volleyball. The adults, however, came out with the win.

At the end of the evening, Connolly Principal Rosemarie Sekelesky was awarded the District Games trophy on behalf of the green team, and with it, this year's bragging rights.

All proceeds raised from games are donated to the Glen Cove Community Scholarship Fund, which provides money to graduating seniors at the high school.
