Just in case you missed Patch's coverage this week, here is an overview of some of the latest news in Glen Cove.

- After several contentious meetings about 2010-11 budget cuts, the Glen Cove Board of Education voted on Monday to restore a guidance counselor position in next year's budget. The additional job, school officials said, will not change the $70.3 million budget. The spending plan will be up for a public vote on May 18.

- With the 2010-11 budget season here, Patch dedicated this month's Glen Cove Sounds Off report to the budget. We spoke to several residents before a school board meeting on Monday. Check it out here.

- The Glen Cove City Council approved a $5.9 million Capital Improvement Bond on Wednesday. The funding, city officials said, will be used to replace, among other things, collapsing sea walls, decades-old floors in the fire house and battered roofs on city-owned buildings.

- Detectives in the Glen Cove Police Department also announced on Wednesday that they helped to bust an upscale cocaine and marijuana ring along the Gold Coast area. Police arrested Locust Valley resident James Blatchly and several others after they discovered a mini-drug factory in Blatchly's apartment and in a home in Roslyn.

- There were also two fatal motorcycle accidents this week. City resident Michael Davenport was killed on Friday after his 2005 Yamaha motorcycle struck a guardrail on the Wantagh State Parkway. The following morning, a 19-year-old Glen Head teen was killed on Glen Cove Road in East Hills after his motorcycle crashed into city resident Juan Uribe's SUV.

Nassau County police say Uribe drove while impaired and detectives believe that it was a mixture of alcohol and prescription drugs. Uribe was arrested for charges on second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while ability impaired. His arraignment has not been scheduled.
