Ladies' Lecture: Safety at Sea- Prevent Emergencies and Minimize Their Impact

The Ladies of Glen Cove Yacht Club are planning a monthly Lecture Series in the winter  and spring of 2011. We welcome all women who are interested in expanding their knowledge of sailing and cruising and meeting other women who sail. Our Ladies Lectures are open to the public and free of charge. Directions and other information about Glen Cove Yacht Club may be found at http://glencoveyachtclub.org. The schedule follows (all dates are subject to change if necessary):

Sunday, March 13, 2011 4-6 p.m. at GCYC
"Safety at Sea- Prevent Emergencies and Minimize Their Impact" GCYC Commodore Herve Riou will enumerate ways sailors can reduce the possibility of emergencies at sea. He will discuss what to do if there is an emergency; how and when to call for help, what to do first, what equipment every boat should carry and how to use it. He will answer questions about specific emergencies. His extensive EMT experience will assist in giving insight into how to travel safely at sea. As a special treat, we will begin with a live video conference with Kelly Cass, on camera meteorologist on the Weather Channel. Kelly will speak on typical weather patterns on Long Island Sound. She will discuss how to identify dangerous inclement weather, what to expect when the weather changes and will answer questions related to weather in our area. If interested in attending, please RSVP Marie Siobhan Gallagher at MarieGallagher@SATcourse.com or 516-655-3395 for planning purposes.

(April and May Lectures are still in the planning stages.)

Ladies at the Helm is an association of women and men dedicated to improving the skills and participation of women in the sport of sailing. Activities center around the Glen Cove Yacht Club in Hempstead Harbor in Nassau County on Long Island Sound.
